Hills: Intervals for People Who Hate Counting — Forty-three minutes of climbs and descents, with the playlist doing the math so your legs don't have to.
Interval work falls apart the second you have to watch a clock. So I let the BPM run the workout: when the tempo spikes, you climb; when it drops, you recover. Two hard songs, two easy ones, repeat. No timer, no thinking — just react to the beat.
Run it in order, no shuffle, and commit to the deal: on the fast pairs you push like there’s an actual hill in front of you, and on the slow pairs you genuinely back off — that recovery is what makes the next climb possible. It closes on a hill, because of course it does. I’ve thought about this for two semesters while I was teaching at Cornell in Ithaca. Running those hills was brutal in the beginning, but this playlist style made it bearable - somewhat 😉.
